IS Kate THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR YOU?

Grieving loss, questioning relationships and identities, and feeling immobilized by overwhelm have been some of the most challenging parts of my life—and are what inspire me to accompany others on similar journeys. Like I did, you may understand the problem intellectually but still feel stuck in it. You might have tried therapy before and are tired of talking in circles. Maybe you are frustrated that previous therapy isolated the problem in you, rather than interrogating the systems we live in. Instead of just coping—let's discover ways to become enchanted by our lives, clear about relationships, and immersed in our communities.

I work with people navigating grief and loss, trauma, identity questions, relationship changes, neurodivergence, and major life transitions. I also work with children and teens struggling with loss, change, belonging, school, or the intensity of growing up, as well as families and relationships trying to find a different way forward together. I have particular experience supporting LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and immigrant clients, along with youth and families navigating identity and belonging.

Therapy with me does not have to mean sitting across from one another and talking about the same problem week after week. Sometimes words are exactly what we need. Other times, we might pay attention to what your body is communicating, experiment with movement, make something, step outside, connect with the natural world, or find another way into an experience that has been difficult to put into language. My training in Narrative Therapy, movement-based expressive arts, and nature-based therapy allows us to be creative about what therapy can look like.

One of the ideas that most shapes my work is that you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. I’m interested in the stories you’ve been told about who you are, the stories you’ve come to believe about yourself, and the ones that may no longer deserve so much authority in your life. Together, we can get curious about where those stories came from, what has helped you resist them already, and what becomes possible when there is room for another version of the story.

I also don’t believe our struggles happen in a vacuum. Our relationships, families, communities, cultures, identities, bodies, histories, and the systems around us all shape how we experience ourselves and the world. I want therapy to be a place where those realities can be acknowledged rather than asking you to become smaller, easier, or more acceptable in order to feel well.

My role is not to decide who you should become. It is to meet you with curiosity and respect, help you make more room for what matters to you, and support you in finding ways of living that feel more connected and more fully your own.

That can be especially important if traditional therapy hasn’t felt like a fit before. You may have spent a lot of time understanding why you feel the way you do without experiencing much movement. You may be tired of being reduced to a diagnosis, a behavior, a relationship role, or something that happened to you. We can slow down, listen differently, and discover what changes when more of you is invited into the room.

Ultimately, I think therapy can be about more than managing what hurts. My hope is to accompany people as they reconnect with their own knowledge, creativity, relationships, bodies, values, and capacity for change. I keep returning to the hope of helping people become a little more enchanted by their lives.
